Hiring a Broker: Bring Your Commercial Space to Market

June 16, 2021 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

ONLINE via Zoom

Description:

The hiring of a real estate broker is an important step when completing a development project and throughout the holding period of a residential property’s life. Identifying and hiring the right broker can mean the difference between earning project revenue and delivering on a building amenity, versus having prominent building space sit empty. The selection of a broker involves asking the right questions and knowing when you find a broker who is the right fit for your project. This course will provide an understanding of the sequential steps in broker selection, identifying the attributes to seek in a broker, steps and timing in hiring a broker; setting brokerage fees payable to broker; understanding the responsibilities of your broker versus your attorney; and overseeing a broker’s work from project start to tenant move-in. Students will explore onboarding issues that may have been overlooked or never performed in the past, and cover the following--

  • Considerations in selection of broker for your commercial space
  • Establishing criteria in the selection process
  • Crafting and distributing an RFP
  • Identifying and selecting outreach resources
  • Knowing the sequential steps in the hiring process
  • Factors in play that determine your hiring process timeline
  • Respond to Q&A
